Program Summary

The Diploma Program in Electrical Engineering Technology (Plant Operations) produces graduates who have a certificate of electrical competence with the knowledge and skills required in engineering industries such as oil and gas, chemistry, electricity and electronics as well as manufacturing. This program exposes students with skills in the installation and control of electrical devices and equipment in low voltage live circuits including, Main Switch Board, Motor Control System, Overhead Line System, Underground Cable System, single-phase and three-phase industrial wiring systems, EX wiring systems , the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and the Electricity Regulations 1994 which are commonly used in the industry. Students are also exposed to CAD software such as AutoCAD as a basic design knowledge in this field.

Students are also exposed to leadership, soft skills and entrepreneurship through the general survey course in forming graduates who are competitive in the electricity, oil and gas industry.

Career Prospects

Students who successfully graduate from this program will work as assistant engineers and electrical supervisors in various organizations such as engineering, construction, oil and gas and equipment manufacturing companies. Students can also choose to become technopreneurs by opening their own company in addition to working in the industry.
